Changing Domain / Hosting Alias to Standalone Site

Hsphere has a two domain aliasing features:  Domain aliasing and service aliases.  Sometimes it is needed to convert an alias to a standalone site and the following shows how to do that for both types.  You can tell the differences between the two because a domain alias will only show up under the domain it is aliasing and service aliases show up under the domains list as well as under the domain they are aliasing.

Hosting / Mail Service Alias:
Hosting / Mail service alias is the current way hsphere handles aliases and how new aliases are setup.  To convert an alias to a standalone site, please do the following:
  1. In the control panel, go to Domain settings --> Domain info --> and the domain that the alias domain is aliasing
  2. Find the alias domain under Hosting service aliases and click the delete/trashcan icon next to it
  3. If you want mail services to be standalone also, delete the mail service alias listed on the same page
  4. Now go to Domain settings --> Domain info --> the alias domain
  5. Click the "red/off" icon for web service so that it turns to a green/on icon

Domain Aliasing (Old scheme):

Domain aliasing works the same way as hosting / mail service aliasing, however, it is setup differently and is the old method of domain aliasing and no longer used.  However, some domains are still setup as domain aliasing.  To convert a domain alias to a standalone, please do the following:

  1. Go to Domain settings --> Domain info --> the domain the alias domain is aliasing
  2. Find the domain under "Domain aliases" and click the delete/trashcan icon next to it
    1. NOTE: removing domain aliases also removes them from the control panel and if you have a standalone mail service for the domain already, that may be affected
  3. Now go to Domain settings --> Add new domain and use the "Host Existing site" form
  4. Complete any additional pages with their default settings.
  5. Setup any mail accounts that were deleted when removing the domain alias
